This document illustrates how to set up Becky Internet Mail version
2.09 (latest version as of this writing) for use with Courier
IMAP. These instructions may work with other releases of the 2.x
series, but this has not been tested. It assumes that an account
called mike has already been created on the server
for the domain karmak.org, and a password has been
set. In all examples that follow, you should substitute your
own account and domain (you@yourdomain.com) for those
shown.
Start Becky!

From the File menu, select New Mailbox....
In the Creating New Mailbox window in the Mailbox Mailbox field enter a name for the mail account you are creating and select IMAP4rev1 from the Mail Protocol dropdown list. Then press the OK button.

This opens a Settings window. You will be on the Account tab. The Mailbox Name will have the value you entered in the last window. You may change this here if you changed your mind about what you want to call the Mailbox.
In the Personality section: Enter the name and email address of the account you are creating, then set the Server Settings as shown below.
Note on Server Settings: Some providers will have a designated machine for IMAP server, such as imap.domain.com. If you have difficulties connecting, contact the provider for the correct name to enter here. Likewise, many email providers do not allow external SMTP connections, so you will need to use your ISPs SMTP server (e.g. smtp.myisp.net) instead of that shown. The User ID field is provider-specific but the common setting are either the part of your email address before the at sign (@) or your complete email address. Enter the password for your account in the Password field. The Connect on Starting Program and Connect on Opening Mailbox settings are a matter of your personal preference.
Leave the Profile Name as (Default).

Click the Misc tab and enter the values as shown below:

Press the OK button to save your settings.
The mailbox you just created will be selected in the left mailbox/folders panel. Press the Remote Mailbox icon () on the toolbar to connect. (Alternately from the Mail menu you can select Connect to IMAP Server.)
Note: To troubleshoot a connection, go to the Tools menu and check the Protocol Logs item. This will display the connection dialog with the server in the lower right view panel when the root mailbox is selected in the left panel (Karmak in these example).

You cannot adjust the configuration of an IMAP mailbox when a connection is active. To disconnect from the mail server click the Remote Mailbox icon again (toggle on/off).
