Configuring Entourage for Courier IMAP

Note: This document has been assembled piecemeal from
various sources on the Web. I don't have access to Entourage, so I
can't guarantee that these instructions will work. If anyone can
(1) confirm that this setup works, (2) tell me what doesn't work,
or (3) send better screenshots (legible PNGs), it would be
appreciated. Send email to karmak AT karmak dot org.
Open Entourage. Go to the Tools menu and select
Accounts.
The Accounts screen will open. Click the
New button.
On the New Account screen select IMAP for Account
type, then click the OK button.
An Edit Account screen will appear. It is shown
below, but you should not use the values in the screenshot.
Instead:
- Enter your full email address next to Account Name.
- Fill in your name next to Name and your email
address next to E-mail address.
- Fill in your full email address
in the Account ID box.
- Fill in your domain name (lowercase only, e.g. yourdomain.com) into
the IMAP server box.
- For SMTP Server, use your ISPs mail server
(something like smtp.comcast.net, or mail.bellsouth.net). If you do
not know your ISPs mail server, you can use your domain name
again.
- Click the OK button at the bottom.
Click the Options tab, and set the values as shown
below. For the Root folder option, you should enter
"INBOX." (INBOX followed by a dot).
Click the Advanced tab, and set the values as
shown below, except you should also check the box next to
"Empty Deleted Items folder on quit".
Now click OK, and you will be returned to the main
Entourage window. It should look something like the following:
